How much does a smart home cost?
It depends on the package and your property. Our Bronze package starts at an accessible price point for basic lighting automation, while Gold covers the full smart home experience. Book a consultation and we'll provide a detailed quote based on your specific needs.
How long does installation take?
Typically 1–3 days depending on the package and property size. Bronze installs are often completed in a day, while Gold installations for larger homes may take 2–3 days.
Do I need new wiring?
It depends on your home. Many devices (sensors, cameras, smart plugs) are wireless. Smart switches typically replace existing switches and may require neutral wire — our consultation will identify exactly what's needed.
I already have smart devices from different brands. Can you work with those?
Absolutely — this is one of our biggest strengths. Home Assistant supports over 3,000 device types, including everyday brands you buy from JB Hi-Fi and Bunnings. Google, Apple, Amazon, Philips Hue, Tuya, Ring, Shelly, Tapo, Meross, IKEA, Sonos, and many more all work.
During your consultation, we'll assess what you already own and integrate it into your new system. No need to throw anything out.
What happens if the internet goes down?
Your smart home keeps working. Home Assistant runs locally in your home, so core automations (lighting, climate, security) work without internet. Only cloud-dependent features like voice assistants are affected.
Do I get new networking equipment?
Yes — every package includes a premium security gateway and enterprise-grade Wi-Fi routers. Your home internet gets a serious upgrade as part of the installation. IoT devices are segmented onto their own network for security, and you'll notice faster, more reliable Wi-Fi throughout your home.
What is Home Assistant?
Home Assistant is an open-source smart home platform that runs locally on a dedicated device in your home. It supports thousands of devices and integrations, has no subscription fees, and keeps your data private. It's the most capable and flexible smart home platform available.
Can I control everything from my phone?
Yes — and unlike most smart home setups, you only need one app. The Home Assistant companion app (iOS and Android) puts every device under one roof. No more switching between five different manufacturer apps. You can also use wall-mounted tablets, voice assistants, and of course — your normal light switches still work.
Will my existing switches still work?
Absolutely. This is one of our core principles — we never remove or disable manual controls. Every light switch works exactly as it did before. Smart features are added on top.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Home Assistant runs locally in your home. Your camera footage, automation data, and personal information stay on your device — not in someone else's cloud. No data is shared with or sold to third parties.
What's included in the warranty?
Every installation includes a 12-month workmanship warranty covering our installation and configuration work. Hardware is covered by manufacturer warranties. For ongoing protection against platform updates and integration changes, we offer maintenance plans.
Do I need a maintenance plan?
We strongly recommend it. Home Assistant is actively developed, and we manage updates on a controlled schedule so things don't break. Without a plan, we advise contacting us before applying any updates.
Can I start small and add more later?
Absolutely. Every installation is designed to grow. Start with Bronze and upgrade to Silver or Gold whenever you're ready — no rework required.
Do you service my area?
We service the Sunshine Coast (Noosa to Caloundra) and Brisbane metro.
What brands do you use?
We support over 3,000 different device types — including everyday brands you buy from stores like JB Hi-Fi and Bunnings. Home Assistant has an incredible open ecosystem of devices that continues to expand.
We primarily recommend Zigbee and Matter compatible devices from brands like Aqara, Shelly, SONOFF, Tapo, Meross, IKEA, Philips Hue, and Reolink. We test and approve every device before recommending it, and ensure the devices have silver and platinum integration status with Home Assistant.
Can I still use Apple Home or Google Home?
Absolutely. Home Assistant can act as a bridge to expose your devices to Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. In fact, if your device doesn't natively support Apple HomeKit — no problem. Home Assistant will provide that bridge, making virtually any smart device available in your preferred ecosystem.
You can keep using the voice assistants and apps you already love. Home Assistant runs the brains behind the scenes, while Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa act as the interface. Use one, use all of them — it's your choice. Your system also works perfectly without any of them.
