Our Story

Back in 2020, we had a house full of smart devices — and a phone full of apps to control them. One app for the lights, another for the air con, another for the cameras. We got tired of remembering which device lived in which app. Something had to change.

That's when we discovered Home Assistant. We consolidated everything into a single platform and started building automations that actually made our lives easier. But along the way, we learned something more important: for a smart home to truly work, it has to be invisible.

Traditional light switches still need to work. Power buttons still need to work. When a guest, a family member, or a child walks into the room, they shouldn't need an app or a tutorial. The home should just work — exactly as they expect — with the smart stuff happening quietly in the background.

Not everyone in the household was convinced at first. My wife was sceptical — she just wanted manual controls and things that worked the way they always had. But once the automated ambient lighting started setting the mood on its own and the security cameras were all accessible from a single app on her phone, she was converted. That's when we knew we were on to something: if it wins over the sceptic, it's ready for anyone.

As we added a home battery, the real power of Home Assistant clicked into place. Now the system decides when to heat the pool, run the hot water, switch on the air con, or charge the car — all based on when the battery is full and solar is generating. We're not checking apps or flipping timers. The house just makes smart energy decisions on its own, saving money while we get on with life.

That became our philosophy: let the system do the thinking so you can enjoy being present. Read a book. Swim in the pool. Spend time with family and friends. Technology should enhance your life, not take it over.
